Spatial data on marine turtles and their habitats in the Indian Ocean


Since more than 40 years, spacial data on marine turtles are recorded at multiple scales in the Indian Ocean region. They are now saved in the TORSOOI referential database. These data are standardized and mapped in the context of the National Plan Action on marine turtles in the french territories of Indian Ocean in 2014. 


The catalog aims at organizing and strengthening all referential data collected in the conext of research programmes dedicated to the study on the biology, ecology and behavior of different marine turtle species in the Indian Ocean:

  • the green turtle (Chelonia mydas)
  • the hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata)
  • the leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea)
  • the olive Riddley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea)
  • the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta)
