Geographical distribution of sea turtles observations between 1911 and 2011
All the data available for the English Channel and Atlantic fronts are collected by observers of the Réseau Tortues Marines français d’Atlantique (Marine Turtles Network for East French Atlantic) (RTMAE). For the Mediterranean, the majority of data are derived from observations of the Réseau Tortues Marines de Méditerranée française (Network of French Mediterranean Marine Turtles) (RTMMF).
Data are collected in a standardized manner (data collection sheet) during interventions at the scene of grounding or voluntary reporting (harbor fishing vessels).

ENGLISH CHANNEL - ATLANTIC
The database includes grounding data collected since 1915 and data on bycatch and observation at sea, the oldest being from 1911.
Annual summaries are sent to the French Ministry of Environment and is published regularly (Dell'Amico et Morinière 2010 ; Duguy, 1987 à 1990, 1992 à 1997 ; Duguy et Duron, 1981 à 1983, 1985 ; Duguy et al. 1980, 1997 à 2008; Morinière et al. 2001). Some observations at sea were provided by observation campaigns on board fishing vessels (OBSMAM / OBSMER).
MEDITERRANEAN
Network data, summarized and sent annually to the French Ministry of the Environment and the National Museum of Natural History, are regularly published (Oliver 2005 to 2010).
Twenty-two data captures were collected during observation campaigns (program "thonailles") carried out by IFREMER between 2001 and 2003 (Banaru et al., 2010), on driftnet fishing vessels (see chapter "captures accidentelles" (accidental catch) ") and 90 observations at sea data are from surveys carried out by Eco-Ocean Institute between 1993 and 2010 (unpublished data).
