The objective is to observe at high frequency resolution the physico-chemical quality of the waters, defined by the parameters of temperature, salinity, turbidity and dissolved oxygen. The network must also contribute to monitoring critical episodes (exceptional climatic events, floods, storms; hydraulic accidents; deoxygenation during heatwave, etc.) as well as chronic pollution (urban discharges) or the regional impact of climate change (marine intrusion, increase in temperature, changes in flow rates). For the MAGEST consortium partners, this regional network is also a tool to help define and monitor management policies for the Gironde estuary and the upstream basins of the Dordogne and Garonne rivers.
From 2004 to 2016, measurements were acquired every 10 minutes by automated measuring stations placed on floating pontoons. Since 2017, SAMBAT multi-parameter probes (NKE Instrument) placed directly in the surface water (<1 m) have been taking these measurements with a time step of 10 to 20 minutes depending on the station. Some stations are equipped with fluorescence or pH sensors.
