This EMODnet Atlantic Checkpoint data product (the “Product”) is the result of a “challenge” stress test specified by the call for tenders No MARE/2012/11. The challenge partners ( "the producer") were commissioned to perform a number of tests to evaluate marine data according to set user requirements. This product and any resultant data and metadata produced is a consequence of these tests and provided for interest only. The Product is provided on an “as is” basis, and the producer disclaims any and all warranties, conditions, or representations (express, implied, oral or written), relating to the Product or any part thereof, including, without limitation, any and all implied warranties of quality, performance, suitability or fitness for a particular purpose to the full extent permitted by law. The Producer and the Atlantic Checkpoint partners accept no liability for loss suffered or incurred as a result of reliance on the Product or any output of its use. The Producer shall not be liable for any economic loss, loss of profit, loss of business or contract, depletion of goodwill or otherwise, in each case whether direct, or indirect or any indirect loss whatsoever (howsoever caused) including loss or damage suffered as a result of an action brought by any person which arise out of or in connection with the use of the Product or inability to use the Product

The EModNet portals for chemistry and physics do not cover the area of interest. Data layers are available for the Atlantic sea, however the data shown only covers the Atlantic coasts of Spain, France and Portugal up to the English Channel. Nothing is shown for the Celtic Sea or the west coast of Ireland.
Data access and download was challenging for some data portals. The CMEMS website required that user registration took place, which took 24 hours to authorise. The data which was downloaded was then not viewable without specialist software to convert the files. They were provided as .nc files which required conversion to GIS files and appropriate software to view them. Once this was completed the actual data values were not present in the data, only a scale of colours which had no associated metadata.
Data from the OSPAR ODIMS website was initially not available as all data holdings were being moved to a new portal. On return visit several months later the data had been ported but was still not in an accessible format as it was now mapped/graphed for the Intermediate Assessment 2017 and previous years data was available separately.
The data was also difficult to visualise in some cases due to the map resolution and orientation online. It required downloading and mapping in GIS software to determine the actual spatial coverage and resolution.
