Monitoring Phytoplankon in Brest Bay (North Finistère)
This monitoring programme, relating to community structure, aims to highlight changes over time at various time scales : seasonal evolutions (such as spring blooms), inter-annual changes (such as the apparition or disappearance of species) or changes over decades (such as changes caused by natural and man-made factors).
In order to complete this task, weekly taxonomic counts are made of micro-phytoplankton and some nano-phytoplankton. As far as possible they are identified specifically.

Phytoplankton sampled are taken at the surface at high tide on a weekly basis
Counts, species determination and biovolume are determined using an optical microscope or Scanning electron microscope.
Data is stored in the RESOMAR- PELAGOS database ( http://abims.sb-roscoff.fr/pelagos/)
