Marine Mammals and Seabirds and Turtles: Autumn sightings per unit effort of baleen whales from Western English Channel Marinelife Surveys
Marinelife sightings per unit effort (SPUE) of live baleen whales in the Western English Channel. Surveys recorded sightings Balaenoptera acustrata. The data span from 2007 - 2011 and come from both dedicated and opportunistic surveys in the CHARM3 study area. Relative-abundance of baleen whales should be viewed with survey effort layers.

- Explanation
-
Marinelife sightings per unit effort (SPUE) of live baleen whales in the Western English Channel. The data were provided by Marinelife from a dedicated and opportunistic surveys on a variety of platforms over 5 years. Relative-abundance of baleen whales should be viewed with survey effort layers.

- Statement
-
Sightings records were contributed by: Marinelife. Data were filtered to remove obvious location errors (i.e. on land), in poor seastates (>3 Beaufort Scale), from high-speed (ferries), static (dive)vessels, or when chumming occured (fishing). The filtered dataset was then corrected for search effort used to generate survey effort rasters in 0.25 degree resolution. SPUE rasters were then converted to shapefiles.
