SNO OISO CARAUS
Observation and understanding of seasonal, inter-annual and decadal variations in the oceans’ carbon cycle are essential in order to estimate carbon footprints at global level and to parameterize and then validate predictive climate models. In this context, OISO’s repeated observations enable us to increase our knowledge of CO2 air-sea fluxes, the associated oceanic internal mechanisms, their variability and changes (regulation of the increase in atmospheric CO2 by the ocean and CO2 sequestration, biogeochemical cycles).

These data also make it possible to detect anthropogenic impacts in the ocean (acidification) or to identify the feedback modes expected in a context of climate change (warming, stratification, ecosystem changes). Lastly, they can be used to assess certain spatial sensors and to initialize or validate climate prediction models. The OISO program is part of the international SOLAS, IMBER and CLIVAR programs.
OISO started in 1998 (27 campaigns have been undertaken over the 1998-2017 period).
