Abstract

The MOOSE-GE cruises aim to provide an annual summer snapshot of the North-Western Mediterranean Sea basin, to observe changes in water mass properties, biogeochemical content and changes in planktonic biodiversity (https://doi.org/10.18142/235). These cruises are part of the national MOOSE program (Mediterranean Ocean Observing System for the Environment) funded by CNRS-INSU and the Research Infrastructure ILICO (French Ministry). Since 2012, lowered and ship ADCP data were collected during MOOSE-GE cruises. This data set contains quality controlled data of horizontal currents measured by ship and lowered ADCPs.

Since 2012, L-ADCP (Lowered-Acosutic Doppler Current Profiler) profiles have been collected during MOOSE-GE cruises. Two 300kHz RDI Workhorse L-ADCP current meter attached to the CTD-rosette were deployed in master/slave mode, one looking up and one down. Data have been processed using the LDEO software (A.M. Thurnherr, “How to process LADCP data with the LDEO Software (Versions IX.7-IX.10)» , Internal report march 2014). External qualified data (CTD, SADCP, GPS) are used to processed LADCP data.

The shipborne S-ADCP used during MOOSE-GE cruises depends on the year and the ship (RDI’s OS 150kHz (range 0-300m, dz=8m) for 2012, 2014, 2015 on RV Suroit, and 2013 on RV Tethys; OS 38kHz (range 0-1200m, dz=24m) since 2016 on RV Thalassa, L’Atalante or Pourquoi Pas ?. Shipborne S-ADCP date are used to constraint the lowered ADCP data on the upper part of the water column.
