Abstract The product has been done by P.P.Shirshov Institute of oceanology RAS (SIO-RAS). They used multimission altimeter satellite gridded Sea Level Anomalies data available at https://aviso-data-center.cnes.fr and Copernicus. Sub-regions were selected so that to cover a range of hydrodynamic conditions in the Black Sea: shallow shelf areas (1, 9); dynamically inactive central deep-water areas (10, 11); dynamically active (including meandering, jets and eddies formation processes) zone associated with the intensive circular current (Rim Current) and attached to the continental slope (2, 3, 5, 7, 8); persistent Batumi (4) and Sevastopol (6) anticyclonic gyres.

Utilisation This EMODnet BlackSea Checkpoint data product is result of a stress test so called "challenge" specified by the call for tenders No MARE/2014/09 to determine how well the input data from the observing and monitoring systems existing at the sea basin scale fit the user requirements stated by the "challenge" partners to develop it (Data Product Specifications). The information contained in the data products and in the descriptions (metadata) of the input data and the data products making use of them is believed to be trustworthy. However its completeness, consistency, accuracy and usability cannot be guaranteed. Whilst every effort has been made to ensure its reliability within the limits of present knowledge, no responsibility can be accepted by those involved in its compilation or publication for any consequential loss or damage arising from its use.
